When we started the Internet 100, we knew it would be a challenge. Money and power we knew, but who really knew the Internet? Fortunately, we have a lot of old business friends and we have gotten to know the new, new players. Together, we compiled a list of more than 200 entries. Thanks to our Internet Sleuths, we filtered down to the 100 leaders in nine categories. And in this hot new frontier, we know that next year's Internet 100 will have lots of new faces.
While the industry is barely a decade old, it has already produced its first class of stars: people of mythical proportions who defy being put into a single category. These are our Gurus, Legends and Fast Trackers. Don't be surprised by the number of supporting players versus the pure dot.coms. The Internet is like any other industry; there may only be the big three car makers, but there are hundreds of others who make things happen. In fact, our largest category is Financial/Investors. Like any other scene, money makes the world go round. And good ideas always attract lots of investors. As one of our players said: "Right now, there's more money than good deals." ...
