User Interface Development

1. How important and how reliable is user feedback for a brand new product?
2. What is the best way to gather user feedback for a (1) large public company and (2) a start-up?

System Architecture

An OLAP application is required to analyze traffic flow on a 300 page web site receiving 1,000,000 visitors per day, 10% growth/month. Of these page hits generated by each user, 80% are dynamically generated using Java Servlets + a proprietary template language or JSP.

Spec it, from software requirements on down to the hardware and interface to the web server infrastructure. Anything goes, as long as the result is someone hitting a web page or database query that returns the following items:

• Page response times, over a certain threshold, averages, and standard deviation
  
• Abandoned forms
  
• Internal dead links
  
• Server errors and other problems
  
• Traffic patterns/click paths
